Company History

The AAPCO Group's history mirrors the career path of Founder and CEO Chip Dobner in many ways. It began in Atlanta, Georgia in 1988 as a new construction painting contractor for the multi-family apartment industry and then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1991. As AAPCO pursued and attracted renovation projects in the Carolinas, the goals were to be a successful contractor, perform quality work, and establish a solid reputation in the industry. Through Chip's desire to establish trusted relationships with his clients, AAPCO quickly grew into one of the largest multi-family apartment renovation contractors in the region.

But, while AAPCO continued to grow its business, the driving force - indeed, AAPCO's founding principle - was to be a Christ-centered business. This meant conducting every aspect of the business, individually and as a company, to have a positive influence in the lives of employees, clients, subcontractors and even the communities they served.

In 2002, Chip's personal commitment to this effort manifested itself when he turned over the day-to-day operation of the business to his brother Stan Dobner, so he could pursue pastoral ministry.

Today that vision serves two important purposes. AAPCO is pursuing growth in both sales and market share across the country with the hope of being viewed as the multi-family apartment industry's most trusted general contractor. But they also have a vision to help people who are hurting - by applying their contracting skills to renovate properties for those who cannot afford to do so themselves; and by reaching out in more spiritual ways to give them the support and strength.
